Queer Film Night

QueerBee and Sappho Events presents

A curated programme of seven queer short films.

Join us for our very first online film club night on Friday 28 May 7-8:30pm.

Welcoming LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people, we bring you an evening celebrating seven incredible queer short films, followed by a 30 minute Q and A with film curator and Director of QueerBee Films, Angie West and Kate Jessop, queer animator behind the series Tales From Pussy Willow.

QueerBee is a platform exclusively for LGBTQI shorts, established to help queer filmmakers bring authentic queer stories directly to new audiences. Queer shorts provide an excellent means of connecting with one another, validating our lived experiences, helping to change attitudes, improve confidence in individuals and our communities, and break down barriers.

The seven selected films include:

More Than God

Director: Kev Cahill | Ireland 2015 | 9 minutes
A short comedy set in modern Ireland that follows the attempts of a religious doctor to uncover his wife’s suspected affair, but instead is confronted by the rigidity of his religion, the boundaries of his love for his daughter and his obligation to resuscitate her lover’s husband.

Uniform

Parents are at odds with what to do when their 6-year-old son is sent home from school for wearing a dress. Starring Laura Gómez (Blanca in Orange is the New Black)

Medulla Oblongata

Director: Roberto Nascimento | New Zealand 2017 | 71⁄2 minutes
Granted refugee status in New Zealand due to the persecution he faced for being gay in the Maldives – where the official religion is Islam – Medulla Oblongata explores where he is now and the life he left behind.

The Third Try

Director: Alfonso M. Rodriguez | USA 2017 | 5 minutes
A lesbian couple tries to find solace after experiencing a traumatic loss. Starring NB model and activist Rain Dove.

Claudia's night out with friends is disrupted by an encounter with the captivating Isabel.

The Real Thing

Director: Brandon Kelley | USA 2017 | 7 minutes
A soldier returns home to meet his daughter.

Tales From Pussy Willow – Parents Chat

Director: Kate Jessop | UK 2016 | 3 minutes
Down in Pussy Willow a challenging conversation is happening between two generations. Tales From Pussy Willow is a satirical animated comedy web series set in the fictional town Pussy Willow, which celebrates queer, feminist and absurdist themes. Using real actors within animated worlds it is a portrayal of contemporary Britain.

Angie West is a life-long LGBTQI activist. She combines a finance management career in non-profit organisations with being a director and camera person of award-winning short films.
