Queer Connect: LGBTQIA+ Disability Panel Event (online)

Join us for a panel conversation with queer people who have a disability, to discuss ways we can better support, champion and shape inclusive LGBTQIA+ spaces for those who have physical and learning disabilities in the UK. 

Jessi Parrott (they/them) will chair the panel, and speak from their experience as a queer non-binary person living with a physical disability.

Nicola Frimpong (she/her) will speak from her experience as a queer woman of colour living with a learning disability.

Bea Webster (she/they) will speak from their experience as a queer deaf non-binary person who is mixed-race.

The event will take place online on ZOOM, with live captioning, and a BSL interpreter.

PANELIST BIOS

Jessi Parrott (they/them) 

Jessi is a performer, playwright and academic. They have Cerebral Palsy and use a powered wheelchair. They are also non-binary, bisexual and demisexual (which fits under the asexual umbrella). Both their creative practice and their academic research are informed by all these aspects of their identity, and they are passionate about intersectional and inclusive representation in the arts, media and society more generally. 


Nicola Frimpong (she/her)

Nicola’s goal is to assist and support people with learning disabilities. Nicola has additional needs, living with dyslexia and dyspraxia. She would like to inspire people who struggle to gain confidence within the LGBTQ community. Her mission is to provide a happy, safe and warm platform at Sappho Events to empower and create self-belief.

Nicola is an artist. She has a Postgraduate Diploma in Painting, and has been featured in established galleries such as Tate Modern and Christie's Auction House. Nicola loves to express herself through art, which is her passion and obsession.

Nicola previously hosted Queer meet ups in 2014-2015 at venues such as She Bar, Muse, and Bar Titania.


Bea Webster (she/they)

Bea Webster (she/they) is a Deaf queer non-binary Scottish-Thai actor, theatre-maker, writer and drag queen. Bea graduated with a BA Performance in British Sign Language and English from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Bea’s recent theatre credits include The Winter's Tale (Royal Shakespeare Company), RED (Polka Theatre), Holding/Holding On (National Theatre of Scotland), Mother Courage and Her Children (Red Ladder/Leeds Playhouse), peeling (Taking Flight).

Bea's recent writing credits includes Is This A Fairytale? (Wonder Fools/Traverse Theatre), Squeezy Yoghurt (National Theatre of Scotland).

Bea was nominated for Best Actor at the Stage Debut Awards 2019.
